Counting Money

The Counting Money exercise set gives students practice in adding up currency to find a total.
Use the Currency Collection editor to select an included currency, or to create your own local currency collection. Included currencies: AUD (Australia), CAD (Canada), EUR (Euro), GBP (UK pound), NZD (New Zealand), USD (United States of America).
Change the number of exercises

Click on the box labeled "Number of Exercises" in the options panel.

Type in a new number or use the up and down arrows to change the value. You can choose any number from 1 to 200.
Change the row spacing
Set the spacing between rows of exercises in 100ths of an inch (25 = 1/4 inch, 40 = 1cm).

Select the input field for the Row Spacing option in the options pane.

Type a new value in the field or use the up and down arrows to increase or decrease the value. Valid range is 0 to 300.
Show title

To show the exercise set Title, select the check box for the Show Title option in the options pane.

To hide the exercise set title, deselect the check box.
Show instructions

To show the exercise set Instructions, select the check box for the Show Instructions option in the options pane.

To hide the exercise set instructions, deselect the check box.
Show the answer bank

To show the answer bank, select the check box for the Show Answer Bank option in the options pane.

To hide the answer bank, deselect the check box.
Show duplicate warning
When this option is selected, a warning is displayed if there are any duplicate exercises in the exercise set. To hide the duplicate warning, uncheck the Show Duplicate Warning option in the options pane.
Add and edit currency collection

Select Edit Currency Collection in the options pane. An ellipsis button appears. Click the ellipsis button to open the editor.

Add your local currency using New, or use Open to select an included currency collection.

When selection and editing are completed, click OK to close the editor and apply the changes to the math document.
Set the number of coins

To set the number of coins to use for the questions, select the drop-down arrow for the Number of Units option in the options pane.

Select the desired unit numbers, then press OK to apply the selections.
Set the unit order
Select the order the money units are presented in

To set the unit order for the activity, select the Unit Order option in the options pane.

Select the desired order - Descending (largest to smallest value of currency), Ascending (smallest to largest value of currency), or Random (no particular order).
Set the unit side
Select whether to display the Obverse (heads or front), the Reverse (tails or back), or Mixed (a mixture of the two coin sides) sides of the currency.

To set the unit side for the activity, select the Unit Side option in the options pane.

Select the desired side.
Set the size of the money
Sets the size of the money as a percent of actual size. Valid range is 50% to 100%.

Select the input field for the Money Size option in the options pane.

Type a new value in the field or use the up and down arrows to increase or decrease the value.
Set the unit lines
Select the box for Unit Lines to display a line under each image for writing the unit value of the currency. When checked, lines are displayed; when unchecked, the lines are hidden.
Display answer as cents
By default, the answers are displayed in dollar amounts (No is selected). To display answer as cents, select one of the options that best suits your local currency formatting.
